kirtan

WHAT IS KIRTAN?

Kirtan is a means of finding our way back to the core of our Being, to our heart, and to our connection with each other.” Ragani

It is a community gathering where we come together to sing and chant to the One Divine Source of all that is. Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting whose roots go back over 500 years to India. It is a form of Bhakti Yoga (yoga of devotion) and has the power to open the heart. The singing is accompanied by musical instruments and rhythmic drumming and the audience is invited to add they voices by chanting, clapping and dancing. You will not be able to resist the urge to join in! In its heartfelt expression kirtan and can induce profound states of meditation, bliss and ecstasy.

The performers and the concert-goers create the experience together.
The chants are sung in various languages. The ancient chants contain powerful renewing and transformative energy that helps us reconnect with the Divinity that resides within all of us.
Singing is the heart of kirtan, and no one cares what you sound like.  At a kirtan concert all voices merge together to become One Voice.

Leraine and Shen’s kirtan not only uses sanskrit but calls on other sacred songs inspired by indigenous practices from around the world!
